Excellent Resource

I'm using this book to study for my ACE Certified Personal Trainer exam. I had previously read books from ACSM and NSCA and although the material is very similar, what I like about this book is that each chapter has questions at the end to test your knowledge, so you can go back and zero in on your areas of weakness. One review stated that ACE is "all about money"...WRONG...ACE is the only not-for-profit certification organization out there, and is consistently rated as one of the top 5 Certified Personal Trainer certifications in the nation. The book is very technical, and there is ALOT of terminology, not unlike the other books I've read on exercise science/physiology. ACE may not be the most prestigious CPT out there, but their study system is alot more structured than ACSM and NSCA which basically gives you books and leaves you on your own. Material is up-to-date, and based on research. It's dry reading in the sense that you'll wonder why you even have to know some of the material, but nonetheless, it is very informative. I have taken graduate-level courses in Health and Fitness and this book is just as good as the books used in my classes.

ACE, the WORST - Read before you waste your time with ACE Books

Ace offers the worst studying system that I have ever tried. Their manual is a joke...

Always avoid ACE Books/Manuals if you are trying to become a personal trainer. Why?

1.The material they offer will not help you with the test.
2.Their customer support is just a front so they can get you to buy more.
3.Money is their number 1 priority, therefore their products & services stink.
4.Confusing and unprofessional writing. If they want to sell books, they should hire a real writer.
5.After you purchase this you will feel cheated big time.

Came brand new in plastic, bonus dvd, very informative and helpful with personal trainer exam. Recommend buying to learn more than what's just in the personal trainer manual.

About the Author
Huntington Willard is President and Director of the Marine Biological Laboratory and Professor of Human Genetics at the University of Chicago. Prior to his appointment at the MBL, Willard was on the faculty at Duke University, where he was founding director of the university-wide Duke Institute for Genome Sciences & Policy from 2003 to 2014, the Nanaline H. Duke Professor of Genome Sciences, and the Arts & Sciences Professor of Biology & Genome Sciences.

Be Aware...Page Numbers Not Included

The regular Windows version of Kindle can't do a page search....fortunately, the cloud version will do a page search...although it took the first tech who took my call forty minutes of trouble shooting with no resolution before hanging up on me to determine that. The second tech new enough to have me use the cloud version.

After an escalation that went to four people, I was at least able to get one book refunded that didn't have page numbers...which was Bates Medical Interviewing book. wooooo hooooo!

I found Gita Wisdom to be a perfect introduction to the Bhagavad-gita. The author's insights provide a very practical application of this ancient wisdom into 21st century life. I also found it helpful that the author is a practitioner rather than merely a scholarly eye looking in from the outside. This is a great book.

"Bhagavad Gita" translates into English as "Song of the Supreme Person" and is a founding document upon which the Hindu religion and Yoga traditions are based. It is also the story of an epic war between two massive armies of four million soldiers with all the panoply of an ancient battlefield that included warrior elephants, gold-plated war chariots, beating drums, men grimly bent on killing other men with bows and arrows, spears and clubs. "Gita Wisdom: An Introduction To India's Essential Yoga Text" translated and provided with extensive footnoting by Joshua M. Greene is the 'story within the story' of prince Arujuna who foreseeing the carnage to come and turns to his friend and advisor Krishna (who also serves as Arjuna's charioteer). If your new to the concepts in the Bhagavad Gita then this might be a good place for you to start. It's an easy way to read some of it. The author putting his thoughts at the beginning of each section acts as quick summary of the proceeding passages.

If you're familiar with reading philosophic topics then I'd jump straight to the source for reading and reflection. Mainly because the author doesn't add a new interpretation of topics than what can be seen at face value from the text.

A chain of challenges that could have defeated anyone. But Betty would not give up. With each new hurdle she summoned the strength to survive. Tim McGraw A Mother's Story begins with 11-year-old Tim's accidental discovery that his real father is baseball great Tug McGraw. In a heart wrenching passage, Betty "McMom" Trimble describes her young son's struggle to come to terms with an onslaught of painful truths: that the man who Tim thought was his father for 11 years was not; that Tim's real father was a wealthy and famous athlete whom he idolized and whose baseball card was taped to his bedroom wall; and that that same famous celebrity, baseball great, Tug McGraw, had chosen a life without him. Trimble recounts her fateful encounter with McGraw in 1966, then a minor league pitcher with the Jacksonville Suns. Trimble recounts her struggle to survive extreme poverty and protect Tim from the abuse she suffered at the hands of her first husband, a truck driver in rual Louisiana. In simple, moving prose Trimble documents a bleak existence for her family. One painful episode after another unfolds, leading up to Trimble's diagnosis of life-threatening cancer at the age of 27. Ironically, the desease saved her life. After a successful operation, she determined to make a better life for herself and her family. Trimble left her abusive husband, completed her education, became a bookkeeper and bought a house--all while raising three exceptional children. The family still lived hand-to-mouth, never receiving any money from Tim's increasingly famous and wealthy father. And more hardships followed, including the sexual molestation of her daughter by her second husband. But Trimble's spirit would not be crushed. Betty Trimble is affectionately known as "McMom" by a growing circle of fans and admirers. She recently saw history reverse it's self. As a young dancer, Betty received an audition for Dick Clark's Action Dancers in 1967. Her audition date found her well into her pregnancy with her son, and not able to attend. Hearing about Betty's story, the ever young Dick Clark, feeling "your never too old" chose to present to Betty during an appearance on the Leeza Show, a contract, some 30 years after she had made the extreme sacrifice of giving up her career for her unborn son; a choice his father refused to make. A VERY GOOD READ

This book was a very good read.
If you are a fan of Tim Mcgraw you will like this book.
Betty had a very hard life and she is a strong woman.
I think it was sad that Tug did not want to step up to the plate and take care of his son. He did not even want people to know about Tim for many years. then Betty married a man that beat her. it was good to read that she got away from him. This book is very good and a fast read.
even you are not a fan of country music I think you will like this book.
Betty was honest in telling her story.

Worth the read.............

I have become an avid Tim McGraw fan and was interested to read more about his life story. His mom seems like a very sweet lady who did a great job raising him under less than optimal circumstances. His life story intrigues me as well as saddens me. As a very talented guy who seems to give a lot to everyone around him, who was conceived out of wedlock----had he been conveniently aborted the world would have been deprived of his musical talents, and that would be so sad. He has recorded many awesome, poignant love songs and is involved in several worthwhile projects helping others. It saddens me and makes me wonder with the 50 million babies whose mothers did not allow them to see the light of day: what promise and potential was denied? Kudos to McMom for her difficult life choices and for writing such an open and honest book.
