Cheese & Eggs, Cheese & Eggs, Cheese & Eggs
By S. Doyle.
The concept behind the book is sound. A reduction of calories and carbs equals a reduction in weight. First the water goes and then over the 14 day period, fat. I lost 5 lbs in two weeks. This doesn't sound like much but it is the final 5 lb ceiling that I have never managed to shed despite trying long hours of exercising and any number of diets.
The recipes in this book are, sadly, incredibly bland and unimaginative with a heavy reliance on eggs and cheese (or tofu). I was so bound up that I was having painful intestinal cramps. The solution was to eat more fibre such as endive, celery, spinach or bran. But again, all consumed with little or no flavoring (the bran tasted like ground cardboard).
At the end of the 14 days, I was sick of the eggs and cheese. And there was an additional problem of what to do if you wanted to continue on a reduced carb diet. I felt I could not adapt the recipes if I wished to continue.
Many meat eaters think that vegetarians have an incredibly limited diet, lacking in variety. Most vegetarians know this is not true (although I am often amazed that some vegetarians themselves think that all they can eat is a salad). This book does not dispel that myth. There are other books available that are filled with inventive flavorful recipes(eg. Vegan Vengeance). Now all we need is one that has flavorful reduced carb recipes.

Easy to follow, Tasty recipes, and it works!!!
By SC
I've been a vegetarian for 17 years, but never paid much attention to how much protein I was getting in my diet...I figured it all worked itself out. After my second child I was having trouble losing the last few pounds of baby weight, so decided to give this diet a try. It took a few shopping trips to revamp my pantry, and some prep work baking/preparing low carb snacks for those binge moments...but I feel less bloated and after 2 weeks have lost 5 lbs (I don't really need to lose any more than that.) The Low Carb pizza is delicious, along with the Chocolate Almond Bark, Spinach Bread, Tomato Cheddar Soup. A few of the prep time estimates have been off (and I have small children distracting me in the kitchen) but overall the food has been tasty and easy to prepare. I wasn't so crazy about the Nut Loaf and the hot cereals are a bit glue-like...but there are so many other things to try, I think I might try to stick to this diet for a while. One warning re reducing carbs: the first week I did feel light-headed and dizzy, but after I made it past 7 days I've been fine (and added a few more low carb servings, which probably helped.)

Great book
By Cindy
I lost 50 lbs on the Adkins Diet when I used to eat meat. I had it down to a science losing .5 lb/day without even trying (seemingly) because I had the diet down to such a science, had memorized the number of carbs in virtually everything I ate. In fact I got so good at it I got to the point my only struggle was getting UP TO the 20 grams of carbs I was subposed to have. Once I got down to 115 lbs I had to go off it or I would have ended up weightless. It was a great diet and the first serious diet I had ever been on since I never had a weight problem until I had my second child in my late 30's. The problem is I didn't follow the maintenance plan. Big mistake!
Well, now my son is 10 and I have not only gained ALL the weight back plus 15 lbs my diet has changed to somewhat of a vegetarian (I do eat fish and cage free eggs) but the Atkins Diet doesn't offer a good vegetarian diet so I was at a loss as to how to lose this extra weight. It was very frustrating. I knew I was eating too many carbs but I needed a guide to help me along.
When I saw this book it was just a dream come true. Finially, a vegetarian low carb high protein diet book, it was just what I was looking for! I've been on the diet now for almost two weeks and have lost 6 lbs and already feel better because I don't feel as bloated and I feel self assured because I can use this book as a guide.
Just some ideas: I was using Splenda but now I've ordered a natural sweetener on Amazon because this author reccommends natural sweeteners opposed to artificial. I drink my EGG or WHEY protein shake every morning and that starts the day off right by filling me up. I mix it with the Almond Soy Milk I ordered on Amazon. It's very good. I take a vitamin every day like the author suggests. I love this author's comments about certain foods, ideas, suggestions and recipes. I always keep hard boiled eggs in the frige to snack on. I like to sprinkle Old Bay seasoning on them (I'm a Maryland resident). Via Dr. OZ, I purchased the "Miracle Noodle" on Amazon and broiled it with fresh spinach and season with salt/pepper. It's very filling and satisfies the taste buds. Fresh almonds are a great snack and I have either a breakfast dinner or fish for dinner. Sometimes just a big salad with balsamic vinager for the dressing. Another great meal is to slice a green or yellow pepper in half, fill with cream cheese or goat cheese and toast it in the toaster oven. OMG it's fantastic! You can sprinkle a herb seasoning on it too. The romaine lettuce is great to use as a "wrap" to fill with tuna fish or egg salad.
I reccommend this book to anyone who wants to lose weight the healthy way. My only advice is once you lose your unwanted weight, stick to a maintenance plan!!! If I did, I wouldn't be dieting right now...ugh. Or I should say "A lifetime change of eating"...shouldn't look at it as a diet. Good luck!
