About the Author

Frederik Coene is currently Attaché dealing with post-conflict assistance in the Delegation of the European Commission to Georgia. His research on the Caucasus began in 1999 during his internship in the Office of the Secretary-General at NATO Headquarters. Since then he has researched, worked and travelled in all parts of the Caucasus.

Well researched but not as well written

Looking for an introductory text to the region in preparation for a trip to Georgia, I found a copy of F. Coene’s _The Caucasus_, which left me despairing I’d learn much. That’s not because Coene hasn’t done his research. The book is stuffed with data. Unfortunately, it reads more like an encyclopedia and is best used as a reference and research tool. Charles King’s _The Ghost of Freedom_, on the other hand, is quite the opposite, a well-written, compelling narrative that though limited historically to the last two hundred years, offers a portrait of a region where independence is always just out of reach. King is in fact such a solid writer I’m seeking out his histories of the Black Sea, Odessa, and the new Turkish Republic. In the meantime, I wonder if anyone has anything more to recommend on the Caucasus.

Coene's book is easily one of the best books I've come across regarding the Caucasus. As the previous reviewer cited the work covers both the north and south Caucasus with great information across a variety of issues...ranging from conflict, economics, demographics, historical and cultural topics. This is an indepensible read, although I found the price slightly high it was very worth the purchase.

I know what it feels like to not remember

As a survivor of child abuse and a carrier of DID, I've been asked "How can you handle reading this book? It's so graphic!" Truth is, I familiarized with so much of it. I know what it feels like to not remember, to want out of your skin, to switch based on situations, states of being, all of it. I know what it's like to be defiled at the age of three years old. Truddi was such a brave woman, and could only wish to have the support she had from her psychiatrist "Stanley". Beautifully written, sad and horrific and a mirror of my life with DID. thank you for this book.

Beneficial to read for anyone.

When Rabbit Howls is, to my knowledge, unique in the literature when it comes to biographies/autobiographies of a multiple system. Every other book in this genre that I have read discusses ONLY the system as perceived by, or interacting with, the outside world. This book actually talks about some of their INSIDE life, and that is invaluable to truly understanding what it is like to live a multiple existence.

In my experience, as a multiple: if you are multiple, this book will help you feel less alone.
if you know someone who is multiple (especially if you just found out) this book can help you understand them.
if you are a professional who works with multiples, this book will help remind you that every system is different.
Every person within the system is different and Integration is not the only option.

No matter who you are, it can help you see the creativity, the beauty, the difficulties, and complexity that living a plural life can be.

Amazing book for Adults only!

This book is gut wrenching. It is not easy to read based on the horrors and events that are described in this book. You find yourself crying and wanting justice at the same time; you want to pick up this child and run her away into a safe haven. This book helped me to find what I am going to school for now. I have bought 11 copies of this book, one at a time. Each time, I lend it to a friend with the promise of return, and they never give it back to me. I have re-read this book 5 times. WARNING-extremely graffic content.

Becareful what you wish for

This was one of my favorites from this author. I love how she made you really feel all the emotions from all the characters. What a wonderful story of passion and lust. It makes you think about the saying be careful what you wish for. You start the book with a hopeful thought that Joanna will finally get together with her best friend the love of her life. At the end you are wondering is this the best for her? A must read !

Knowledge....all knowledge!

I am absolutely amazed with this extremely detailed and informational book. It has everything from angels, to numbers, to abominations! It's so thorough it even has how many chapters, verses, and words are in the Bible! My friends and I are excited to even have it (well, we're about to receive our own copies) so that we can use it for Bible studies, quizzes, personal enlightenment during quality time. I recommend this book to anyone who has ever wondered anything about the Word.

Good book...if this is what you want!

I gave this as a gift and I was expecting it to be something different than what it was. It's really just like a concordence for the bible, organized a bit different and with more unique headings. It does require a Bible, however, if you want to read the passages as they relate to a particular item.

If you're looking for a great gift for someone who's a minister or a devote of the bible, it's the perfect gift. It's also ideal for that person who likes to "debate" over dinner with friends about what's real according to the bible (e.g., the second law of thermodynamics concerning energy deterioration: Ps. 102:26, Rom. 8:18-23, Heb. 1:10-12).

The reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because I do feel that it wasn't properly represented, If Amazon's "Look Inside" feature had been offered on this item, I WOULD NOT have purchased it.
